![]() Features guest performances by Christopher Bowes (Alestorm, GloryHammer), Anna Murphy (Eluveitie), Dom R. Crey (Nothgard, Equilibrium) and Trollfest. The German metallers Varg drop a 48 minute EP as a little wake-up call to their forthcoming January 2016 release Das Ende Aller Lügen and also in celebration of their favorite character, although in their very own rendering, she is factually the villain. The EPs type of set-up is undoubtedly nothing that I fancy the least, as Rotkäppchen features pretty much the same song in 6 different versions. I would actually have preferred if this thing was released as a 3 or 4 track edition instead. By also having the words to the songs sung by guest artists in English and Norwegian, and not only in the band's native tongue, German, doesn't contribute to any kind of diversity really. The EP's final track is such a repetitive and annoying piece that I, on a repeated number of times, start to think "Is this total crap song never gonna end?". Rotkäppchen is basically not one of their better songs and this EP's outstanding tracks are definitely, first and foremost Ein Tag Wie Heute, but also the subsequent song Abendrot. The 2 songs, which regrettably won't be featured on the coming full length release, are absolutely awesome and are coming right out of the Varg vein with their balanced aggressiveness and straightforward appearance. I certainly wish that the coming album will come out in the footsteps of these 2 great songs and not in some weird way like this EP's title track does.
