![]() Yet another live release from German metallers U.D.O.. This release marks the end of guitarist Stefan Kaufmann's live activities with the band, as he quit due to health problems earlier this fall, which most of you probably already know by now. Recorded last November in Sofia, Bulgaria and released one year later in two formats; DVD + 2 CDs and Blu-Ray + 2 CDs. In about a month also on 3 LPs. I'm just checking out the CDs, so what the pictures show, I don't know. This live album contains a mix of new and classic U.D.O. songs and of course also a bunch of Accept classics. I find great joy in that long lost and fantastic songs like Independence Day, Heart Of Gold, Break The Rules, Living On A Frontline and Two Faced Woman ended up on this release. Udo Dirkschneider's and Stefan Kaufmann's heritage from Accept must of course be represented as well, but on how many occasions have we already heard those songs in different versions? Also parts of the those songs sound weaker than when played by riffmaster Wolf Hoffmann and Herman Frank of the now current lineup of Accept, which I can verify with a fresh memory of their gig in my hometown about a week ago. I'm not too satisfied with the eleven minute guitar solo and the frequent sing-a-longs with hey, hey, hey and oh, oh, oh. This however shows what a U.D.O. live performance is about, but I hadn't mind if some parts were edited, as I can't find any pleasure and greatness in those things. On the other hand, most of the songs are awesome and I can't ignore the fact that if they want to sell some or more copies of this release, they can't release an album full of obscure and unknown tracks. The sound quality is satisfying. Not too well polished
and it sounds live. All in all it's a good live album, mostly due to
the quality of the songs. It's always hard to rate this type of releases,
but I go for 6 chalices.
