Although they were a pretty active band in the beginning
of the '90s, Evocation split up after a couple of years and it would
take twelve years to reform again. Because of this it took until 2007
to release their debut album, Tales From The Tomb, which I still treasure
as one of my favourite albums of the genre.
Evoked From Demonic Depths - The Early Years is a compilation,
or documentation if you will, of their first years. It contains remastered
versions of the first two demos, The Ancient Gate and Promo 1992, along
with some rehearsal tracks and a new recording of the song Genesis which
never has been released in a studio version.
There isn't really much to say about the content; if you
haven't heard these demos before, take this chance to do so because
these remastered demos sound fantastic and contain some truly great
songs. The rehearsal tapes are of course somewhat rough sounding but
still a nice bonus and the recently recorded version of Genesis is really
good.
In my taste it sounds a tad bit too polished in comparison
with the brilliant demos but that's just nit-picking. Basically, for
any fan of the early Swedish death-metal scene, this is a goodie-bag
which definitely deserves some attention.
