![]() Chapter II: Aftermath is the second album by Sweden based Harmony. The band has existed since 2000 when they were formed by guitarist Markus Sigfridsson and drummer Tobias Enbert. Markus and vocalist Henrik Båth are also active in the brilliant progressive metal band Darkwater which released their debut album in 2007 (reviewed by yours truly elsewhere on this site). Even if progressive elements can be found in Harmony's music as well the main focus is set on straight forward song structures and accessible melodies. The similarity with Darkwater is obvious of course but they also remind me a bit of Evergrey even if Harmony's sound is not as dark as their countrymen. That the band members all are great musicians is quite clear since the performance is nothing but top notch all the way. They also know how to write songs with memorable melodies and efficient arrangements. Aftermath is a driven track with pumping double bass drums and a chorus that sticks instantly. Another of my favourite compositions is Don't Turn Away which is mid-paced and brilliantly arranged with a mesmerizing chorus that has the quality to haunt you for quite a while. The highlight of Chapter II: Aftermath however is Inner Peace. This is a treat for all of you who like me are a big fan of Daniel Heiman (Lost Horizon, Heed etc.) since he is handling the vocals on this one. The reason why I love this track isn't Daniel's favour alone though since it's by far the best composition on the album and has one of the best choruses I have heard in the genre in a long time. Absolutely brilliant! Even if I consider the album as a solid release on the whole there are some songs that pass without raising eyebrows. I don't count them as fillers but definitely not as intriguing if you compare them with the highlights. Still though, Harmony has produced an impressive album and this should be a must have for all fans of melodic/power metal with a touch of progressiveness. The output is highly professional and I can sense the big potential this band is in possession of.
