![]() Review of CD content only. Unisonic puts out a live recording from the appearance at last year's Wacken Open Air in Northern Germany, consisting of songs off the band's two first albums, the self-titled one and Light Of Dawn from 2012 and 2014 respectively, as well as one song from each of Helloween's classic 80's Keeper Of The Seven Keys albums. The songs in their original versions are for the most part pretty damn good, I would say, but on this album I think that the band is somewhat unable to take the vigor and grace in those songs and via a performance on a huge festival stage bring it back on a high-energy level for a live album, even if the songs in a live environment indeed come out more in the power metal vein than what they do on the studio albums, where they definitely would predominantly be considered melodic metal or hard rock songs. Michael Kiske's voice is all right for sure and he sometimes proves that he still got what it takes for performing this type of music. Yet, similar to the musical appearance, the vocal department isn't in full blossom either and together they can't deliver the cargo in one piece this time. Live In Wacken is certainly an okay product, but out of these guys I'm doubtlessly looking at something closer to the extraordinary than just hearing them spending another day at work.
