The scottish band Alestorm is not out on an easy task,
to say the least. Considering that most instruments sound to not play
at the same every now and then, they make it even harder for themselves
by placing a guy at the microphone whose vocals sound very strained
and become very irritating after a short while. And as if this was not
enough, they have dug up the most ridiculous choruses they could possibly
find, supposedly straight from the backyard of some desolate highland
pub.
This is supposed to be some sort of "True Scottish
Pirate Metal", whatever that might be, but all I see before my
eyes when listening to this is a bunch of jesters in funny hats dancing
on tables while the tankards are flying high. Just listen to Weiber
Und Wein for yourself and then try to prove me wrong (the song is a
new recording of their own song Wenches and Mead). Wolves Of The Sea
is just plain awful also, but that is not their own song, it is a cover
of a song performed by Latvia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008.
I guess and certainly hope they have fun doing this, however,
and that is all that should matter. Refrain from spending one dime on
this, though. That way we can perhaps make them keep this in the rehearsal
room in the future. But first they are about to release their new and
second full length album Black Sails At Midnight during 2009. You have
been warned...
