Sebastian Bach is back after four years with another solo
effort. This time joined by Nick Sterling, who's handling both guitar
and bass, and once again by well known Bobby Jarzombek behind the drum
kit. Bach has had many ups and downs in his career. His last album,
Angel Down, showed that he, with the help of right musicians and songwriters,
still could create music worth listening to, as it was nothing but a
great album.
The first half of Kicking & Screaming is making you
think of Bach's early career. Heavy and/or catchy songs that creates
an impact right away. Also his vocal efforts sometimes seem to have
travelled back in time as he sounds young and fresh again. Highlights
are title track, Kicking & Screaming with its heavy and raw sound,
and My Own Worst Enemy. A fast song and one of the most catchy songs
Bach has ever recorded.
The second half of this release sounds just like the first
half, except for one small problem. Where did all the great songs go?
The heaviness is still there and the catchy choruses are still there
as well, but the songs aren't nearly as good as on the first half. To
call them fillers would be taking it one step too far, but someone please
tell me what happened!
As I already made clear above, this album looked promising
at first and I am more than satisfied with the first six or seven songs.
At the end, I would say that it's a solid heavy metal album with a bunch
of awesome songs and definitely worth buying.
