Grave Digger equals German heavy metal with small and
few changes in the last twenty years. It's kind of repetitive, but still
solid and I usually am a big fan of their work. With lyrics about ancient
Greece and its mythology, historical moments are still of great matter
to this band.
Clash Of The Gods is yet another Grave Digger album, so
expect no groundbreaking changes with their new creation. The main part
of the tracks are in midtempo or slightly speedier and lead vocalist
Chris Boltendahl is as hoarse as he has been for the last thirty years.
The band's patented quires are still present to this day and of course
the heavy riffs as well as Stefan Arnold's rolling drums.
Nine songs, an intro and an interlude is what we are being
presented to during forty-six minutes of metal music. I won't go through
the songs and will just point out that most of the songs are kind of
equally good. Perhaps listening to their music for years and years now
has taken its toll, since I somehow feel that the album is good, but
I heard all of it before and I have a hard time focusing on the music.
What they now have achieved can't be considered as one
of their better efforts. It's good, but for being a Grave Digger album
it has a lack of great songs. There are no songs that kills instantly,
like Ballad Of A Hangman or Paid In Blood on their latest records. Don't
get me wrong here, I dig the album, but I was hoping for more from the
veteran metallers.
