Hellyeah's new album Blood For Blood instantly feels rougher
and cooler than what the band's latest effort Band Of Brothers did.
It's also without shortcuts to find easy ways out and I think that this
unit has taken a huge step forward in terms of the songs' capacity and
accuracy. In comparison with the predecessor, which I thought was decent
at best, this release feels nearly as a total success. There are some
basis in the band's performance naturally and even though many elements
are somehow reminiscent of earlier work, I feel that the band has stepped
up to a level where things get more interesting.
The album contains a good and solid groove all throughout,
it feels a little more aggressive in the appearance, the riffing is
more precisely decisive and the totality comes out heavy hitting. Also
add that the actual songs in general are way better and more captivating.
This fourth album from Hellyeah may seem, despite two semi-ballads and
songs with different approaches, a bit repetitive with a fairly modern
and American orientation, but perhaps nothing else was expected either
and with this release it's mostly a non issue, due to its satisfactory
end result.
They seem to have targeted the positions with conviction
and even if Kevin Churko is in the producer's seat, this album includes
a rather respectable sound picture, intended to fit this tearing experience.
I sometimes think that his works don't come out reliable and I sometimes
get the feeling that he instead often solely creates what he wants to
have, including co-writing, but with Blood For Blood I sense more validity
in the end. This release comes out strong, reactivated and up-to-date
to me and I frankly couldn't even remotely see this outcome when I decided
to give it a shot earlier this summer. 7 chalices to this energetic
accomplishment.
