Third album from the American so called supergroup Hellyeah.
Their two previous releases have entered the charts in the top 10 in
the States, but I wonder for how long this band will be able to profit
from them playing in well known or even famous bands before. The rest
of the world haven't found their greatness yet and I somehow tend to
think that it will never happen.
There are loads of heavy decent riffs on this metal album.
The rhythms, many beats and licks are also cool, but there are things
missing. First and second, great songs with a captivating groove and
new ideas. This is powerful heavy metal with a shouting vocalist, but
it's almost same all through, as the album seems monotonous. I have
listened to the eleven tracks from start to finish for almost ten times
and every time the album ends, I hardly remember what I just heard.
The voice of Chad Gray is almost only different and varied
in the ballads or in the slower parts. On the rest of the album, it
seems like he has got stuck in a one or two note box. I'm exaggerating
of course, but it wouldn't have hurt if he had been more varied, to
create a more diverse feeling.
The album is pumping and heavy, but with the lack of good
songs, I can hand out no more than 3 chalices. The musicians are classy,
but even if the performance is nothing but good, the actual quality
of the songs is what matters most and is the most important factor when
you decide if you want to listen to an album again or not.
