Naglfar

I arrived at a sold out Vera just about when the first warm up act Amoral stepped off the stage to give place to Naglfar. Swedish death metallers started at full speed and kept a good flow and pace throughout the show. I have not followed their career for a long time, not since the first couple of albums actually, so I can not judge from what albums the songs where taken. It sounded good, however, and they were tight and secure in their performance and I was surprised to hear quite some melodic elements in their music. It seems that they have developed good over the years, and I will definitly check up on their later albums. The audience loved it, there were a lot of moshing and slamming going on and Naglfar do not have to be ashamed of their performance this night. Quite the contrary, it was heavy and intense as hell.

Finntroll

After Naglfar's crushing death metal, it was time for one of Finlands leading acts in folk metal to enter the stage. Finntroll play a splendid mix of humppa-humppa/folk/metal and as it seemed this night, this music is just as appreciated in Holland as it is in the northern part of the world. Finntroll delivered a nice set with all their hits and the sound, show and energy were all above par. Even though they have implemented quite a bit of folk elements in their music, there are enough metal to satisfy most metal fans. The sound is good and heavy and it is just a big, nice party mood over the whole concert and I enjoyed it to the last second. The only thing to complain about, and that goes to the same extent for Naglfar too, is that there is not much action or movement on stage. The musicians have their solid spots and they are working good within them, but there is not much movement outside it. All in all, a very good gig.
