Skylark - Wings
![]() There is no secret that it is the classic Italian power metal Skylark delivers, actually it couldn't be more obvious when the album starts spinning. And it is the romantic kind of power metal where the romanticism comes pouring out of the speakers, for me it gets a bit too much and my limit of sweetness with music gets pretty fast overflowed. When there is speed in the music it gets actually pretty good but although it lacks of power, I am waiting for the album to take of and really get cracking but it never happens. Skylark have a good sense for melodies but to many of them gets wasted by ballads or midtempo parts where the lack of power is really showing. And the exaggerated use of strings and in this case terribly sounding fake ones from the keyboard also takes away some of the little pleasure I get from Skylark. Even if Skylark is new to me they have been around for over ten years and I am surprised by fact that Wings is their ninth album, I think one could expect more of them at this point. If I was to guess I would have thought that Wings was the debut from a young inexperienced band. The choice of cover seems like a mystery to me, the terrible
from the beginning Def Leppard ballad, When Love And Hate Collide. Skylark
actually manages to make a version that is worse than the original,
and once again the fake strings from the keyboards helps to destroy
the track.
