This is brutal chaotic metal and way rawer and bestial
than his recent stuff released with Down. Philip Anselmo, a man who
needs no introduction, riots, revolts and crushes himself through forty-one
minutes of ferocious metal, more similar to his style on the later Pantera
records. I've been looking forward to listening to his work again, but
I quickly find out that this is total fucking disturbing noise, roaring
through my speakers and I can't imbibe much greatness to what they have
achieved.
Just because Anselmo has returned to a brutal vocal style,
there's nothing to be over-excited by, since the actual music leaves
huge gaps to fill. With squealing guitars and massive riffs, brutally
angry and fierce vocals, destroying drums and a fierce bassplay, this
album has the potential to be just stunning, but when seeing the big
picture, this seems like a mediocre shot at winning some of his Pantera
fans back. It beats me, as I really can't find anything appealing on
this release. This record feels strained and contrived and I just want
to pass through it as quick as I can.
The performance is cool and thundering, but to no avail
since most songs are simply terrible and fatiguing. I'm glad that this
release is only forty-one minutes long, because I can't take anymore
of this rubbish. A skilled songwriter wouldn't have hurt and I really
can't pick one good song out of eight possible. To me this is music
that wants you to bang your head through a brick-wall. Ignore this release
to avoid headache. I know where I will walk if I hear this album again.
Yes, you got it. Through the exit, only.
