Since The Flood - Valor And Vengeance
I listen, listen again and scratch my hair. What to write about this? It is always hard to review a new band in a genre at the outskirts of your musical domain. The production is noisy. It can sometimes mean a good thing, as in 'better than overdone', but in this case it just becomes hard to listen to after a while. The short songs melt together into a grey mass of extreme music. The singer Chuck Bouley is just a pain in the ass. Anyway, These Scars is a bit more melodic than the rest of the songs. But that just shows how far behind the Americans are the Scandinavians in the art of combine extreme metal with melodies. For Today qualify as a favourite as well, just because of the groovy drumming. When you force yourself through the record a few times
you discover a bunch of great riffs among the noise. But Bouleys screams
are just not doing it. They are overshadowing rather than accompanying.
This is just not anything I would play voluntarily. Yet its not totally
bad, if you are into the more extreme metal scene. (I have to stop ending
my reviews with that reservation
)
