With a motley past and literally many trips on and off,
vocalist Josh Brown and drummer Keith Foster have decided to revive
Full Devil Jacket again after being kind of on an undefined hiatus since
over a decade. The group originally released one EP and one full length
record in 1999 and 2000 respectively and although the band kept going
for a few years in different formations, they eventually went separate
ways and didn't announce their reformation until earlier this year.
This new record shows mainly modern hard rock in a mixture
with alternative metal and even though this piece of music doesn't come
out as anything close to groundbreaking, many of the tracks are certainly
good enough to capture my attention. A few songs and particularly the
opener Killers are indeed really awesome and that primarily also goes
to the ones with the laser sharp lead guitar play that's delivering
cool, yet kind of simple, melodies.
Although most of the material, due to the total production
I must say, ends up in a fixed type of music, it's still a pretty diverse
effort if you look at it song by song. It includes occasional heavy
riffing and a large number of great hooks who contribute to pretty much
an overall captivating performance. I don't think that all songs come
out with a striking and killing capacity, but in the end Valley Of Bones
is a valid and solid record.
