With a new lineup featuring two new additions in guitarist
Alex Bartkowski and drummer Daniel Zeman, Germany's The Very End now
releases their third album Turn Off The World.
The Very End combines all kinds of metal elements like
heavy metal, thrash, melodic death and metalcore. There is no decisive
straight line on this rather diverse release, making me think to whom
this album will reach out to. It's heavy, sometimes aggressive and sometimes
not. The guitarplay has a couple of great leads and also cool riffing.
The bassplay has a heavy groove, but then there's one massive obstacle
to climb; the making of great, captivating and interesting songs.
Their ambition to create beautiful melodies and strong
powerful songs within their types of music eventually don't reach out
to the full. I've listened to this album over and over again, but when
these eleven songs and forty-six minutes have ended, it still stands
on square one, eager to explode, but without fuel it doesn't ignite.
This album doesn't reach the edge and over it, to make you wanna headbang
and scream the lyrics out in front of a mirror. A decent release however
with a couple of good songs, like the angry opener Splinters, the furious
The Last Mile and the last song, heavy To Feed On Hope, with its neat
chorus.
