Thyrane originally formed back in 1994 by the front man and remaining member Blastmor and have since the early days concentrated their way of playing to quite fast blackened metal with lots of melodies. With the tones from keyboardist Hanna Mari, Thyrane has managed to create something so unusual as keyboard oriented black metal that aren't soft and sweet as candy and most important of all, it keeps the listeners interest in the long run.

Travesty Of Heavenly Essence is a work filled with traditional soundings like Dimmu Borgirs Spiritual Black Dimensions album, but Thyrane add something raw and unchained to this. Elements of both thrash and sometimes heavier death metal tones. Things like these can cause serious problems to the identity of a band but in Thyranes case I'm actually positive about it. The raspy vocals from guitarist and vocalist Blastmor are more than well suitable for the music Thyrane perform, and very well balanced. All compositions seem to be well thought through. Good variety in tempo and melody building, always with aggressive drum arrangements. If I should criticise this album it would be the standard on the songs quality. Some are really high on the scale and some leave perhaps a little bit more to wish for.

The production on Travesty Of Heavenly Essence makes the music just, even though I had preferred a heavier sound. Apart from this, the album has many highlights, for example a really cruel guitar arrangement combined with an even meaner snare drum as can be heard on the title song. Overall I would like to point at many rapid guitar riffs, some of them seem to be taken straight from the school book, written by K.K Downing and Glenn Tipton. Very heavy metal in its foundation, so to speak.

A nice and convincing experience I must say. Not leaders of their genre but not followers either. Thyrane move somewhere in the middle, lurking in the shadows ready to strike. Travesty Of Heavenly Essence is a good album, but I think that this band are able to reach even darker and deadlier dimensions. Time will tell….
