It's been 6 years since the Swedish metallers Manimal
released their debut album, The Darkest Room, so if you ever took the
time to listen to it, it's at this point quite possible that you've
already forgotten the most stuff of what they came out with back then.
I know I have. So full speed ahead to this album instead, where they
truly are coming back with a vengeance as they are indeed showing some
really solid evidence of being a force to be reckoned with today.
Trapped In The Shadows is a great album really, where
the band puts forward a bunch of effective and captivating songs in
the borderland of power and heavy metal and to some extent also melodic
metal. Some songs are speedy with high-pitched vocals to fit the specifics
of power metal, whilst other ones are heavier and more riff based and
are dwelling in the realms of heavy metal, and lastly a few of them
contain more of a melodic touch, yet kind of fast still, to be precise.
This release is undoubtedly not showing signs of being
anything that's widely outspread or hitting too many different directions
though. It has a clear line throughout the entire album, which they
naturally don't diverge from for the most part. It's metal, it's fresh
and it's firing on all cylinders. Not the least brutal, neither especially
massive nor immensely heavy. Just a really inspiring mission where they
are able to entwine melodies, strong vocals, catchy stuff and nice riffing
into a blasting piece of music.
