Miseration is the third album from Swedish quasi-Christian
death-metal band Miseration. It's not a band that I've followed continually
but I remember that there were some aspects about their debut album
that I enjoyed. I can't really say that this album really appeals to
me, though. It's an okay album technically but the songs are quite boring.
There is much focus on being epic and a lot of experimentation with
different oriental instruments, two things that are pretty risky when
playing death metal, at least in my taste.
They borrow ideas from the Swedish as well as the American
death-metal scene, along with some touches of Meshuggah and a big scoop
of that modern, melodic death metal that I really can't stand. In the
end, unlike their debut album, it sounds more like Scar Symmetry than
Hypocrisy.
They seem to want a little bit too much with this album
and it gets hard to focus on the individual songs - I seem to forget
them all as soon as the music stops. I guess you could give Tragedy
Has Spoken a chance if you're really into modern, melodic death metal
with a lot of different influences. But it's not for me.
