Germany's StormWarrior returns after nearly three years
with its fifth full length studio record. This band has in general not
offered any icebreaking moments musically since the release of the self
titled debut album in 2002. Thunder & Steele truly sounds pretty
much like the band's past work and regardless of several previous line-up
changes, consistency and longevity are secure articles. In this case,
this is something favorable and I back up the decision to continue on
an already written path.
Main man, vocalist and guitarist Lars Ramcke and his metal
unit certainly stay true to what they've released earlier. It's faster
guitars, eager and pounding drums and an often pretty distinct bass
play from the sole Dane, Yenz Leonhardt. It's an overall scraping sound
picture put on rather speedy traditional galloping heavy metal with
tendencies to connect to power metal and speed metal. A captivating
and straightforward approach, without any significant variation in the
totality, that generates pretty much blatant classic metal plays all
throughout and I can't see that nothing else ever was intended.
The band blusters through with rasping riffs and arresting
metal melodies to create an almost eminent work. This release is definitely
one step up the ladder from their latest album Heathen Warrior and I
think that they're back on track again to conquer new territories on
higher levels. They defend the realms with forceful capacity with ironclad
songs on full throttle, that generally are great to awesome, and shows
stability and endurance. Thunder & Steele is a close to breathtaking
effort to fans of this type of metal and I surely encourage you to check
out this achievement.
