It is still not so common with French bands, and even
if there are more and more coming forth, it is still kind of a rare
thing. Destinity was formed in 1996 and with The Inside they deliver
their fourth album, and also what I believe their first to be released
outside of France.
Destinity deliver good and solid quality melodic death
metal to bash out aggressions to, but it never completes any circles
so to speak. It is technical death metal with a maintained melodic sense
and I have no problems with namedropping Hypocrisy as a reference, not
least in the track Murder Within, but it appears similarities at more
times as well. At first I though it was the similarities with the clean
vocals which reminds of Peter Tägtren that made me think of Hypocrisy
all the time, but there is more to it.
Destinity know what they are doing and they do it really
well, although it never rises above average and I find it hard to find
songs that stick with me. The technical and the kind of futuristic sound
brings out a similarity with the band Bio-Mechanical in my ears, and
also with Fear Factory in the compact riffing, but with a much more
death metal approach. However, it is with the rarely featured faster
and more aggressive parts they win my attention the best, when it is
almost reminiscent of classic old-school death metal.
Production-wise I have nothing to complain about, it is
a bone-crushing sound with a raw edge that has been created at Hansen
Studio by Jacob and Michael Hansen. Somehow Destinity appear to have
a sound of their own, but nevertheless it sounds familiar, a strange
equation I know, but that is the way I find it best to describe it.
