France never made a big name in heavy music and therefore
I rarely check out bands from that country. Yes I know, narrow-minded,
but for instance, I have never heard one single second of Lonewolf's
music before, although this is their sixth studio album. Having done
that though, I can't say I regret listening to this record, because
this is indeed a fairly good release, although the final product feels
a bit low budget.
Lonewolf plays traditional powerful and rather speedy
heavy metal with several cool riffs and attractive and captivating hooks
and leads, all backed by a heavy pounding bassplay. Good varied melodies
when seeing each song as its own making, even if the major part of this
record in the end feels somewhat the same. It's a bit like two paces
from start to finish, mid-tempo or speedier tracks. Also far from groundbreaking,
but I like what my ears pick up, although a lot of the beats are reminiscent
of things I've heard before.
Straightforward classic heavy metal with no greasy suck-ass
ballads is what often appeals to me and the only thing really negative
with Lonewolf is the vocals of Jens Börner. All it would take is
a decent singer instead of this hoarse non-singer. I see myself focus
too much on his performance behind the mic, instead of the actual music.
It's not severely damaging, but still I think it's a waste not having
a replacement on that position and if this band have higher aims and
wants to play bigger stages, I strongly suggest that they hire a new
vocalist.
