Agnostic Front has in numerous different constellations
been around since the early 80's and is undeniably one of the definite
builders of the whole hardcore scene. This band's partially punk-oriented
and old school thrash metal related type of music never rooted itself
in my heart and soul in the past and I'm the first to admit that this
musical direction still isn't my top priority when it comes to heavier
music.
This band's music undoubtedly evokes a certain type of
aggression and it's obviously made to develop into a full-bloom attribute
at violent and rabid concerts, where the band can involve an audience
that acts like maniacs and who's having fun while doing it. The American
Dream Died comprises 16 songs, spread over mere 28 minutes and the lengthiest
track stops ticking before the 3-minute mark. Most of the material isn't
particularly good, neat or captivating musically and this entire product
is sonically not a really great effort either. However, some of the
songs are cool to listen to for a few times and especially the lyrics
with its often highly critical contents.
I like the more melodic songs such as Never Walk Alone,
Old New York and Just Like Yesterday, but at the same time I'm totally
not fond of all those one-minute or less tracks who barely have set
things in motion before they quickly and abruptly end. As an entirety
this record isn't very impressive. It can't break through my doubts
and after a while I lose interest of those parts that eventually do.
The record contains a few cool moments though and therefore I have decided
to hand out 4 chalices in the end.
