Productive keyboard player and composer Richard Andersson
(Time Requiem, ex. Majestic) is on it again. This time with his Space
Odyssey, a 'project' that is on its third record now. To be a keyboardist's
chief concern the organ parts are kept very much in the back. Instead
there are room for the much underrated guitarist Magnus Nilsson to shine
with an unmistakable feeling. The powerful voice of David Fremberg has
replaced Patrik Johansson (Astral Doors, Wuthering Heights) who sung
on the first two Space Odyssey albums. David fills the shoes without
any problems and contributes to an almost perfect musicianship.
Richard Andersson himself lets the compositions do the
talking. These are nine tracks with high standard straight through.
The style is typical melodic hard rock, with a neo-classic touch. Not
too progressive. Obsession, Killing The Myth and The Awakening gathers
among the favourites. The latter could have been taken from Whitesnake
sometimes during the 80s. The Northern Silence tends to be a bit repetitive
though. A qualitative release, although not exactly revolutionary.
