With its fourth release, multi-international outfit Eden's
Curse presents a melodic metal album, leaning towards hard rock with
a few progressive elements and occasionally also with well disguised
pop rhythms. Melodic metal is somewhat frequently used as a paraphrase
to music that lacks powerful and striking material that makes you wanna
shout out loud in a state of elation and joy and I also face a double-edged
sword when I listen to Symphony Of Sin, since I really can't decide
if this is just generally bland or heavy hitting, from one spin to the
other.
The record shows neat guitar playing with great soloing,
but without significant heavy riffing, backed up by rhythmic beats and
topped by a glorious vocal performance from new lead vocalist Nikola
Mijic. The songs throughout the record are definitely varied when I
listen to each one of them, although a few too many songs run in an
easy-going tempo. When I have listened to the entire sixty-seven minutes,
I somehow feel like I'm stuck frozen on square one though, just waiting
for those kick-ass moments that functions as icing on the cake.
This is absolutely not a poor performance and I believe
that many fans of melodic metal in fact will consume this album with
delight. Some songs are stunning, some leaves me totally unaffected
and a few ones are a bit cheesy. When I sum things up, these assertions
strand me without something that really ignites my cylinders to create
a massive musical experience that makes my blood rush and therefore
I hand out 5 chalices to a decent album.
