Full title: Jorn Lande & Trond Holter present Dracula
- Swing Of Death
Norwegian musicians Jorn Lande and Trond Holter have put
together a concept album about the life of Count Dracula. The album
is basically built around hard rock with lots of different elements
involved, such as heavy metal, small parts of rock opera, a tad symphonic
moments, some melodic metal, etc.
After a heavy, fumbling start with the opening track,
Hands Of Your God, this record really hits its high water mark with
the immensely captivating song Walk On Water, only to fall deep down
the abyss with the next song, the title track Swing Of Death, which
really is an idiotic jazz/swing/70's pop influenced vomit of a song.
This year's worst song, included on a rock album, to be? So what's my
point with these lines above? Well, my point is that this effort really
has its strong ups and downs in terms of songwriting and a clear lack
of the capability to come out with a massive way of expression all throughout
the record.
Jorn Lande's vocal ability is still impressive nevertheless
and I think that he comes out really strong on this release and nearly
the same goes for the female vocals of Lena Fløitmoen Børresen,
whose voice is a nice complement to Lande's on a few tracks. Still these
two vocalists aren't able to bring overall success to the album, since
the songs simply aren't awesome enough to feed my hunger for great music.
There are definitely too many bland tracks on this release
and the overall performance can't bring this one to any higher ratings
and in the end this is just a decent record which lands at 5 chalices
in my book.
