May Result- Svetogrdje
![]() May Result from Serbia/Montenegro have sent us their 4th full length album, namely Svetogrdje. 'The Blasphemy', translated to English. According to a press statement from the bands label Rock Express Records, May Result is a Serbian elite black metal horde. May Result have been around since 1995 creating black metal in what I would call the norwegian way, resembling bands such as Dimmu Borgir, Emperor and Satyricon in their early days. Svetogrdje was put on tape at the Kazablanca studio in Belgrade and I would say that they have managed well to capture the feeling from early nineties. The sound on Svetogrdje is in the vein of albums such as the debut from Emperor or the Stormblast album from Dimmu Borgir. Spontaneously I feel that I like the work that May Result bring. An aggressive way of playing with lots of cool grind and blast parts. But as so often before, there is a keyboard that is way to high in the mix and is almost drowning the sound picture. I like keyboard and its purpose, but in a moderate dose. I guess it doesn't matter if you so got the hardest riffs on earth, the rawest drum arrangements - a catchy keyboard melody above it destroys it all... The vocals by Glad work really well in all songs, that by the way is sung in their native language. Even though I don't get many words out of this Serbian curses and damnations that May Result cast upon us, I really enjoy the vocals. Slavonic screams goes very well with this kind of music. Good composing and arrangements, well balanced material and variety in speed and heavy, mid tempo sections. The production is ok, but a thing that is not so ok is
the song lengths. To have almost each song running up to 8 or 10 minutes
demands extremely good material in order to keep up the interest for
the music. Songs to recommend has to be Svetogrdje (The Blasphemy),
the really good Pogrom, and the mighty Noc Crnog Plamena (Night Of The
Black Flame). An extra plus also for the nostalgic vibes that May Result
offer. Its not often you get the feeling that albums like the Dark Medieval
Times by Satyricon or, as already said, Stormblast by Dimmu Borgir once
gave. A quite ok album to have.
