Summoning The Dead is the first demo released by Swedish
death-metal newcomers Inverted Cross. 'Old-school' is the keyword here
as a lot of the inspiration seems to come from the early Swedish death-metal
scene. But rather than feeling like a tired rip-off, Inverted Cross
create their own identity with well-written riffs and melodies served
with a raw, brutal production.
There's not much to say about the opening track, Summoning.
It's an acoustic piece building up the atmosphere for the first song,
In Darkness Dwell, which kicks off with a couple of great riffs and
continues in an impressive manner. Lords Of Death is probably my favourite
track on the demo - with a heavy groove and great guitar work, reminiscing
of the early works of Dismember. The last song, Summoning The Dead,
is a classic, fast-paced death-metal song with a Left Hand Path-ish
ending. Good stuff.
All in all, Summoning The Dead is a promising first demo
and I very much look forward to the upcoming full-length album.
