3 years past its debut album, Outshine The Sun, British
metallers Neonfly are back on track with its next chapter, Strangers
In Paradise. This outfit basically plays melodic or power metal with
just an ounce of progressive elements involved. The album in its entirety
comes out pretty cheerful and easy-going with a positive affect nailed
to it, yet with some evident mystique surrounding the whole picture
as well.
The appearance generally ends up with the same attitude
and direction throughout the record, even if there's an instrumental
track and two occasional ballads thrown in to diversify the performance.
The tracks sort of balance on the edge of being captivating, but somehow
the band is unable to reach the necessary target and to really execute
in a way that completely can pulverize my doubts of this record's greatness.
This release leaves me a little stranded without major
impressions, even though it indeed is a fairly good record from time
to time. It includes a few moments that really are worth checking out,
still my metal heart doesn't respond to the music with any greater empathy
or passion. The guys indeed put up a solid performance, but I really
can't connect to what's given and the outcome somehow never break through
my barriers.
