Crobot plays a more modern version of classic heavy rock
music, with roots way back in history. There's undeniably some great
music presented on Something Supernatural and it's definitely a groovy
kind of feeling that embraces the album all throughout, which nevertheless
also sort of contributes to making the album seem a little monotonous
when seeing it as a whole package.
Brandon Yeagley's vocals unquestionably take big part
in the overall atmosphere. The sound picture is decidedly adjusted to
bring out the empathy of older material and to build a seductive impression
with its rougher kind of production. No doubt about it, the guys are
talented, but it seems like I'm more impressed by the band's feeling
and dedication, than by the actual quality of the songs in total.
Although the band is able to combine different elements
of hard rock and also is impressive in the approach of bringing on the
classic bits and pieces and the solid flow in the music, it never reaches
those kick-ass moments, which hypothetically could have been capable
of turning this release into a mind-blowing experience, instead of just
being a somewhat satisfactory effort.
