![]() The American heavy metallers Trivium have besides their clean vocal performances frequently included parts with aggressive vocals and their own version of growls. This new effort, Silence In The Snow, however shows a complete absence of these harsh and extreme elements song-wise and I reckon that a few of the band's fans will be a little bit upset or unhappy with the band's chosen vocal direction. I enjoy quite a lot of the music and especially when the solo guitar is present with its nice harmonies and licks kind of in the background, a little behind the vocal lines. But frankly, just when things are about to accelerate into something quite phenomenal or spectacular, it always kind of falls back a couple of steps to a safe position and to just being good and I feel that this album isn't able to bring forward the band's full potential. Even though each individual song of course comprises variation, this record, as a whole, is rather similar almost all the way from start to finish. The songs overall don't contain that crucial and important effect to make me wanna listen to them time and time again. The choruses are in a way recognizable from one song to another and the songs' structures and arrangements are somehow quite easily identifiable throughout these 43 minutes. Trivium's new record is definitely a creation above average, but this entity has previously released much greater efforts than this one and therefore, at the end of the day, I find myself a little bit disappointed with this album's final outcome.
