The debut album from Spanish duo Graveyard Of Souls shows
a unit highly influenced by the well-known nineties goth and doom metallers.
It's played mostly in an easy-going tempo, with temporary parts of increased
speed. This record breathes kind of the same atmosphere all through.
Doom and goth metal played with a definite monotony.
As a whole, this effort is as varied as a straight line
from point A to point B, and with a good chunk of exaggeration, the
keys and the harmony guitar plays the same tones over and over again.
The production feels very low budget, yet genuine and is as far from
over-produced as something can be.
On the contrary, the songwriting skills are not bad at
all and that is what saves this effort from a bad rating in the end.
I like the way these songs have come to light, although I grow tired
of them eventually after listening to this release over a dozen of times.
It's simply not diverse enough to fill my headbanging soul with joy.
This release would also have done much better with a vocalist singing
with a clean voice instead of enforcing the lyrics from deep down.
There are definitely people out there who will enjoy this
release more than I do, but I feel like this is a finished chapter to
me. 4 chalices to a semi-decent debut.
