Rammstein - Reise, Reise
![]() The German machinery strikes again. Rammstein is back with their fourth full-length album to fill our ears with heavy pounding once again. And finally those endlessly boring hours in school while studying the German language is starting to pay off. The music moves slowly and ultra heavy with the opening title track Reise, Reise and is backed up by orchestra in a typical mighty Rammstein refrain, it is heavily monotonous and beautiful at the same time in a strange Rammstein kind of way. Mein Teil carries on in the same great way but even heavier and with more anger it stomps you down to the ground with a marching rhythm. Rammstein acts with a great deal of confidence and Till Lindeman's dark and raw voice suits this music perfectly and even with the catchy refrain in the track Amerika it is still with a great deal of authority he delivers the lyrics. The straightforward and heavy pounding Keine Lust with a rather fast pace comes out as the best track in my taste, it is with these kinds of tracks that Rammstein really is at their best. The album is heavy as lead and there are several highlights to be found here but there are also a few missteps on Reise, Reise. No real low marks but in a couple of songs when, even if they are fairly heavy, the essence of speed or the marching rhythms of German efficiency is missing. Tracks like Ohne Dich and Amour, nevertheless how heavy they are, get a bit boring to me and just like Morgenstern they does not match up with the other material on the album. German is an bloody ugly language to listen to and not least when sung, but Rammstein provides the exception since their hard and heavy chugging metal gets even harder with the harsh language. Reise, Reise will not surprise you as it will neither let you down, it is easiest to describe how it sounds by one word: Rammstein.
