What the f**k is a Lemon Bird? Well, in this case it's
a young band with an old sound. It's great to hear bands like Abramis
Brama, Magnolia and now Lemon Bird taking on the heritage from the gods
of the seventies. Lemon Bird is slightly bluesier and "cleaner"
in their sound than the aforementioned. The riffs are however there
for the most part. "I Need Your Love" is an outstanding heavy
rocker, sounding a bit like Uriah Heep with a touch of Black Sabbath,
while "Keep On Moving" is a bit reminiscent of the Black Crowes
with and angry slide guitar in the forefront. "Don't Hang (On Me)"
is an outstanding rocker with a nice Zep-feel to it.
In the cool, bluesy "Hole In My Soul" Johan
really shines out a Jim McCarty sounding solo. Killer track "Ain't
Gonna Grieve" could as well have been written by Page/Plant back
in the Zeppelin heydays. Awesome Bonhamish drumming from Anders gives
it a true Brit pre-metal feel and Jonatan does his best to live up to
the Plant expectations. He's not there yet, but he does a good job trying.
One slightly weak link is otherwise Jonatan's vocals.
The voice is fine, although a bit on the edge of being too thin at times,
but as the music sounds very American/British the pronunciation may
need to be stepped up a bit. Now, "Grab A Star" is a prime
example of how the band should NOT sound. A horrible acoustic country
number with even more "Swenglish" vocals. Please, delete,
delete, delete.
