Following in the footsteps of the 2010 full-length release
Majesty And Decay comes Providence, a five-song EP from American death
metal quartet Immolation. After getting past that strangely ugly cover
art there is not much to be said about the music - it's basically twenty
minutes of getting your ass kicked by a brick wall.
One objection I have is there that while there occasionally
are some really good riffs, much of the guitar work seems a little blunt
which kills some of the brutality in combination with the very clean
production. More riff-based song writing would really have lifted this
to another level.
There is no denying that this is a very competent handful
of death metal songs although I would have preferred a grittier, less
polished production. Furthermore, the entire EP is available for free
download on the record label's homepage so there really is no excuse
for not checking it out.
