Insomnium has become one of those bands that no matter what they release it, as sure as Jesus was a cunt, sounds really good. I must say that I, since first hearing the band on Above The Weeping World, have become a sucker for the more than average melancholy take on melodic death metal that the band's produced since the get go.

One For Sorrow certainly does not disappoint me - the songwriting is as strong as ever - and more so than before the band has started to be a tad more varied in tempos in the music than before. This really is gladdening, as I have longed for a record from the band that offers more variety in this department. The songs in themselves are, well, at a level that I haven't experienced before. The riffing from guitarists Friman and Vänni is more stringent and well sounding than ever before.

The mood still is somberly melancholic, and with some of the most beautiful little melodies this really makes One For Sorrow in my opinion the strongest album Insomnium has released so far.

There really isn't much more to be said about this record as the music speaks for itself just beautifully. But I will say this - if you're into melancholic melodic death metal that showcases a band with a very good grasp of good craftsmanship, then Insomnium's One For Sorrow is a good path to follow.
