Epysode - the new project of Virus IV guitarist, Samuel
Arkan. Obsessions - A concept story about a police profiler facing supernatural
phenomena when investigating a series of murders.
With a progressive metal act you usually know what you
will get. Heavy riffs, speed, many tempo changes and a bombastic touch.
This album is no exception. Much to my appreciation, this album does
not contain any short annoying pieces of music and lyrics just to get
the story together. Two short intros and twelve full length songs is
what we get.
All songs in a concept story are somehow important of
course, but apart from the lyrical theme, a couple of songs stand out
as masterpieces, including the fantastic title track. A four minute
song with a heavy melodic verse and a strong chorus, functioning as
the wake up call on this album.
Due to the story and its musical complexity, I recommend
listening to this album several times before making a final judgement.
It gets better from time to time, and if you're a fan of this musical
genre you should definitely buy this album.
