Newcomers Nøthing Møre presents American
radio friendly modern, alternative rock, as far as I'm concerned. This
album is basically based on one outstanding track, the single This Is
The Time (Ballast), which definitely comes out strong with a captivating
melody and a killer chorus. I'm beginning to think in terms of one-hit
wonders and that this band solely is a product. Naturally almost all
bands with a label backing them up are products somehow, but this seems
more calculated and definite for an immediate effect.
This necessarily doesn't mean that the remainder of the
album is anywhere close to poor, but to me most of the record's songs
end up being fixed in one bowl of soup. Mind a pair of songs like Mr.
MTV and Friendly Fire, which have their moments. The songs are in fact
pretty good overall, yet they are unable to constantly throw heavy punches
at me and they can't find the way to entrench themselves within my mind
and body.
Perhaps my interest in music is closer to what I prefer
to call metal, which this effort in most ways is not a product of. It
absolutely sounds young, talented and fresh, but still it's a little
too mechanical and computerized sonically to fill my needs and after
listening to this record up to fifteen times, I can't place it on a
really satisfactory level. A few great songs don't make a whole album
to me. I'm well aware of that my opinion on this record may differ a
lot from the general listeners, so if you like modern rock music that
has a sudden effect, but will slowly fade away, I suggest that you give
this album a shot.
