Swedish legendary Nihilist is now available through Threeman Recordings re release of the bands entire career which lasted some years between 1987-89. Nihilist 1987-89 includes all the material recorded with and by the band during these early days of death metal. Everything from the Premature Autopsy demo of ´88, to the But Life Goes On Demo from ´89. Well, sometimes I can think that these kinds of products feels very cheap and lame, but in this case it's a bit different. Nihilist was out on quite unknown ground when they started up, at least in our northern parts of the world. Of course there was extreme music available back in those days, but the world had not yet seen or heard what was coming in the shape of what we call death metal today. Or rather the swedish or scandinavian way of playing to be more precise. So it is a quite good opportunity for at least the younger generation to be updated with the cold hard facts that was the real reason to the sound. A history lesson in musical violence.

The Nihilist 1987-89 contains various material, some unknown songs and some more familiar, like the Supposed To Rot, Carnal Leftovers, Revel In Flesh and Severe Burns to mention some tracks that later were refined and released on the two first Entombed full lengths. The sound on the recordings isn't much to speak of, very distortional and dirty. Think of the Left Hand Path or Dismember´s Like An Ever Flowing Stream but in even dirtier productions. For me, its ok and I don't see the point in complaining on the sound, when that's the minor thing about this release. It's authentic and real and that's what matter to me. What of more importance are the fact that materials presented on this album are the first ground stones to mighty albums as Left Hand Path, Clandestine, Like An Ever Flowing Stream and why not Unleasheds classic debut, Where No Life Dwells. And I have a naive feeling that if it hadn't been for these recordings, we haven't had the same width over serious and good bands from Sweden in the early ´90s.

A nostalgic trip back to the early days of scandinavian death metal. And there is no question about the quality of these songs, as the majority still feel still very vital and actual if you compare to the scene of today. And who can honestly stand against good old school death metal when it comes to songs such as: Abnormally Deceased, Revel In Flesh, Face of Evil and But Life Goes On. Well, if your horses are in the stable or your paddles are in the water as they should...this album is a must in the collection. And if you should be among the lucky few to have all the demos in shape of originally recorded cassettes - well, well lucky you...but buy these anyway.
