Powergod from Hagen, Germany are back again with their fourth album and the third instalment in the Evilution series. And on this one the band is supposed to have matured musically and become heavier than on previous releases.

Their music is basically a power metal foundation but has strong thrash and even some progressive elements plus the fact that it's very aggressive on many tracks. But the songs themselves aren't very good and it just sometimes "sounds". There aren't any clear distinctions between what's verse and what's chorus and all this is delivered in something that's just too… noisy for me.

The album contains a few highlights but they are certainly just that- few. Sometimes I really think the power-metal genre is starting to get a little too big for it's own good and that it even begins to get a bit overheated when I listen to bands like Powergod. I hadn't heard them before, I must admit that, but who cares when you haven't missed out on anything special whatsoever.

The impression Powergod's made on me with this release isn't impressive at all and the statement that the band will make it to the top with Nemesis is very hard for me to see. I've been a true die-hard and very dedicated heavy and power metal maniac for over 15 years and in all that period of time I can't think of many bands that have made a more mediocre way to live up to such a pronouncement.

But there are a few things that are quite all right in all the misery though. The vocalist isn't that bad at all and there are similarities between him and Brainstorm vocalist Andy B. Franck at times although he gets a bit tiring to listen to after a while. Another thing that's something good is the production but it seems a bit wasted on such mediocre material.

I can also give some credit for some heavy and groovy guitar-riffing on some occasions and for track number two- Call of Freedom, which is something this album should have needed way more of but that's all about it I can say about good stuff here. Although the band-members appear to be talented musicians after all they lack something important when it comes to composing which is a shame when the production holds such high quality.

Despite these opinions of mine I'm sure Powergod's got their loyal fans and followers out there but I'm definitely not one of those. I know from other reviews of this album that Powrgod's had their share of praising but opinions vary and mine is that I didn't like this very much at all.

I know that this review will probably upset at least some of you out there but hey- it's a free country and my advice when it comes to Powergod is that you can save your money and go out and get something more worth spending cash on instead. So without any further delay I declare Nemesis way below average. Take it or leave it!
