Edu Falaschi's inaugural solo record is a thing on which
he has chosen to make kind of acoustic rearrangements of selected material
that he once recorded with Angra and Almah.
7 out of 9 songs originate from the Angra efforts Rebirth
and Temple Of Shadows, which in fact is quite unsurprisingly since he
probably did have his most famous moments with the band during those
2 records in particular. Most of the songs are credited to him in the
first place, either as sole composer or as co-writer, which isn't always
the case when a singer decides to lay down new vocals for already existing
songs, so kudos to that.
The Brazilian native is on Moonlight mainly accompanied
by acoustic guitar, piano and different string instruments and naturally
he uses his voice in a way that's suitable for these versions. Quite
a few of the featured songs are actually good or at least satisfactory
in their original versions as, for the most part, progressive power
metal songs, but the adaptation to lower tempo and less kick-ass emotions
definitely makes them come out unexciting and deflated and I think that
they become kind of boring without the original speed and effect.
I believe that this is an album which people will very
likely only listen to once, and probably just out of curiosity, and
if someone hasn't heard the songs prior to listening to these versions,
I reckon that they will find this one to be pretty pointless and bland.
Personally I have of course listened to this stuff quite a few times,
but exclusively just to get a better idea of its content and to be fair
to the actual creation, because in all honesty, otherwise I would have
only given it one single spin too.
