Swedish hard rockers Eclipse yet again put out a really
great record. It's been about 2 years since their last record Armageddonize
arrived and without a doubt the band's style is highly recognizable
as they unquestionably follow their chosen route in order to bring forth
an awesome end result once more. The main songwriters Erik Mårtensson
and Magnus Henriksson have truly find a way to come out with songs that
are super captivating on the last couple of records and perhaps people
will now finally understand these guys' musical abilities.
The song melodies are so accurate for the most part of
the record that it gets almost ludicrous after a while and Erik's voice
is totally suitable for this type of music in general. Admittedly, some
melodies feel like they originate from past work and are now being sort
of reused with just some key upgrades to become even more effective.
The same goes for the main riffing and the record's overall sound picture
too, but the songs are so strong in their core that I'm not the least
bothered this time by kind of getting more of the same stuff from one
record to another.
Armageddonize was such a tremendous piece of music that
I wasn't really expecting Eclipse to be able to top that one, but they
have actually surpassed my initial expectation and Monumentum is definitely
a terrific effort and in my personal opinion also the band's best work
to date. To me this record absolutely solidifies their position as the
greatest band of this type of music and maybe their way to some well-deserved
fame is just about to begin now.
