Scorpions & Berliner Philharmoniker - Moment Of Glory
The fingers on both our hands aren't enough to count the number of bands that are working with symphonic orchestras these days - it started sometime back in Deep Purple's days, and has throughout time become very common for every other group. Most of the times the result is a little mediocre, to put it gently, but sometimes the outcome of such a hybrid hits just the right spot - Rage's work with Lingua Mortis Orcestra is one fine example - and this is also such a case. A metal-meets-classical-music project has never been this good, except for Yngwie's Millenium Suite CD - where the best of both sides meet each other in true geniusity. None of the musicians here are even close to Yngwie's skills, but instead they manage to put very much heart into this - much is won by that. I guess it helps a lot that Scorpions earlier have composed, and are now picking, songs that are perfectly suited for this purpose. The now 54-year old Klaus Meine has according to me one of the metalworld's most impressing and heartmelting voices, and he is my all time favourite in the high-pitched(or at least in the level above the more darker)singer category. On this cd he is l showing off from his best side, and I am of the opinion that he has seldom or even never sung better than this. In one of the best songs on the album he join teams with Zucchero, which is an interesting combination, as they counteract very well in this song. Not really much else to say about this album, as the songs in themselves aren't new - Scorpions has taken some of their best songs of their career, arranged them very, very well with symphonic elements, and it turns out to be one hour of very beautiful music.
