Throne Of Chaos - Menace And Prayer
When spinning off the first track on this album, the similarities
with In Flames were as obvious as ever can be. Throne of Chaos from Finland are moving somewhere in the outer realms of black metal, with strong similarities to their countrymen Children of Bodom's musical style, but without for one second giving us a reason to fee that they are ripping them off. Throne of Chaos have found the perfect balance between old school black metal sound, and today's power metal - it's only Mr. Kiljunen's vocals that makes it feel more like the first mentioned, since it comparable with the common black metal sound - but I must say that it was a long time since I heard a singer of this genre that performs this well. One lick, melody and riff are replacing the other here,
and the band show themself to master the fine art of handeling their
instruments with the honours. There are only pure killersongs on this album, with the first 5 ones as extra worthy to mention, and then especially Cold Bits of Fire which is a mindblowing track, with guitarlicks and riffs that goes to the historybooks. This career will be highly interesting to follow - they have all the potential to be able to make themselves a name of Children of Bodom's caliber.
