Swedish outfit Månegarm basically plays some type
of folk metal with evident elements of traditional stuff such as Viking
and early medieval oriented lyrics, which mostly are performed in the
band's native language, and also from adding instruments like violins,
flutes and God knows what to it and finally by putting 4 songs to the
album which, in lack of a better description, in way or another are
ballad-ish and mainly acoustic.
The vocals in the heavier songs come out with pretty much
a tone of voice that you would expect of a band of this genre, meaning
kind of raw, cruel and wicked through the verses and clean in the choruses
for the most part. In the lighter songs it's more or less clean and
passionate through the entire songs and I believe that the band is truly
able to validate the atmosphere of kind of being something that's sprung
out of the Middle Ages by adding female vocals to a few of them, as
I believe it puts on a different dimension to the whole album.
The music overall is rather easy to digest and specifically
on the heavier side of the album they have a talent to engender a cheerful,
mystic and distinctive mood and appearance in a grim and coarse environment.
Månegarm has with their 8th album to date really created a great
body of music that in my opinion is diverse without being too outspread.
Just listen to it yourselves and enjoy its contents!
