Reviewing what will definitely be the most hated album
of the year is hard. It's easy to just fall into the angry mob, write
some semi-clever sentences of how much it sucks and then get on with
your life. But what if there is something really good and everybody
are too busy to notice it, while joking about James Hetfield singing
that he is a table? Metallica have always had a special place in my
heart. Hell, I even liked St Anger which makes us, what, a total of
5 people? Surely there must be something of quality here?
Many people might hate Lulu because they're expecting
a Metallica album when it is in fact rather a Lou Reed album with Metallica
as a backing band. With that said, I want to take this moment to reassure
everyone that if you take the time to listen to it with another point
of view it's actually kind of... no, wait, it's still rubbish. Absolute
rubbish.
It's not even the concept that kills it; I can actually
imagine that this collaboration might work under the right circumstances.
There are occasional glimpses of good ideas but unfortunately they are
lost in an endless mass of boring riffs, pseudo-poetic lyrics and way
too long, unproduced songs. On top of this, all parts where James is
singing seem to be written an octave too high which makes it almost
painful to listen to.
I was hoping, to the last second, that something good
would come out of this collaboration but I honestly never want to listen
to this record again.
