Additional lead vocals by Brad Lang.
I had my doubts about a Y&T without bassplayer Phil
Kennemore, but when I saw his successor Brad Lang perform live last
year, my doubts were gone instantly and I knew main man Dave Meniketti
and his boys had chosen wisely. This new constellation of long-time
Oakland rockers now release a double CD containing over two hours of
live music recorded last November at the Mystic Theatre & Music
Hall in Petaluma, California.
Recorded while on tour in support of their latest release,
2010's Facemelter, so what we get is seven songs off that record and
then it's all classic Y&T. It's a no-brainer to face the tough reality,
because even if Facemelter was received well by both critics and the
fans, it's their classic stuff that rule these discs. With a great treasure
of songs to pick from, it's hardly no deal for the veterans to create
a good live album.
Meniketti has an outstanding feeling playing his guitar
and his voice is still classy even if he's soon to be sixty; emotional
and respectful. He's actually one of few guitarists from whom I can
enjoy a long or extended guitar solo on stage. Just listen to I Believe
In You and you'll know what I mean.
This release shows what the new Y&T sounds like nowadays.
I've been given the opportunity to see them perform live several times
during the last decade on both outdoor festivals and in smaller venues
and they never let you down. A very solid live album and something worth
buying for the fans.
