![]() The swedish metal outfit Gormathon is a relatively new band, they started up as in February 2009. According to themselves, they play death metal with elements of traditional and classic heavy metal. I get the feeling that Gormathon are picking up a bit on the theme of Amon Amarth, especially if you take a closer look at song titles and lyrics. Musically, they are indeed related but not quite as melodic, but they do it in their own way and I think they have come up with a sound that is really good. Generally, Tony Sunnhag does not have a voice that is special or unique in any way in this genre, but he uses his resources very well which makes him very pleasant to listen to and it fits the music very well. In the high notes, however, he has a special and nice voice, and in the choruses he sounds pretty heavy and it's hard to not get caught up in his groove. Along their future career, with more experience, I am sure that his vocals will get even better and he will be interesting to follow. Musically there is not much to complain on. There is an abundance of great guitar riffs and well composed songs throughout the album, but one thing that I miss is some more juice behind the drums. I believe that is a thing that would lift this album even one more notch. In conclusion, this is a really good debut album, and if Gormathon can continue to develop this and create music on the same level, I am sure we have a few more great albums to look forward to from them.
