Yet another constellation that ends up under the epithet
'Supergroup' and I must honestly say that this term functions as an
ill-tempered virus, as I can't control my biases, which instantly makes
me approach these releases with caution. Naturally there are tons of
talent in this outfit, but as most people already are aware of, this
given ability doesn't equal high quality music. After listening to this
project's debut a few times though, my mindset has changed to something
rather positive. It terminates my initial doubts and I really think
that this one has a number of valuable moments.
It is somewhat varied with different elements, although
the heavy appearance is basically manifested as a shadow in the foundations
and a pillar which they almost never deviate from. They mix modern heavy
metal with elements of alternative, thrash and industrial metal, without
sounding too contrived. Admittedly, this release is nothing that shows
any direct new paths within heavy music, yet it is rather appealing
to me personally, partly because they're able to vary their musical
angles to a rather satisfactory point.
The kind of endless colossal and heavy riffs and the pretty
evident bassplay form my greatest and most memorable impressions. With
three different singers involved, generally in most songs throughout
the record and not just in individual sections, they express a mix of
pretty natural metal vocals, aggressiveness and more mellow parts. In
the end, this record is perhaps nothing that will create a new chapter
in the history books of stunning heavy metal, but still it faces the
challenge all right and its outcome is absolutely valid.
