The Getaway sparks of this piece with some punk attitude. This is the fourteenth album from these creative Canadiens, and so far they have covered most styles and genres. Katorz is some kind of simple garage rock, still with progressive elements. Don't ask how they manage to combine that. I don't really know what to compare Voivod 2006 to. It is not really my genre of competence. But take some random punk band and mix it with later Entombed and some earlier The Hellacopters. That's the best I can do. Denis Belanger's vocals are a weak spot. His nasal grunts almost makes a claustrophobic sense to the music.

For the second release Jason Newsted (ex. Metallica) is handling the bass. Maybe that has brought some extra star quality to the band, but it is nothing that says that curious Metallica fans automatically will embrace Voivod. It is not even sure that the fans of Voivod's own progressive thrash from the 80s will like this. It becomes quite boring and monotone after a few songs. The production is simple and dirty, but also flat. Odds & Frauds is a rocking black light in the grey dark. If you have 45 minutes over, try another Voivod record first.
